Heaven's Gate: coverage by the World Pantheist Movement

Administrator's note

We created this page to archive the introduction web page written by the leader of the Heaven's Gate cult, prior to its infamous mass suicide. As this debacle has faded from the public memory, and a variety of more thorough archives have arisen, we feel it acceptable to release this content. You can find the full Heaven's Gate web content at the original Heaven's Gate website (the survivors keep it running), a Religious Studies page at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Wave.net. Update posted 2012.

Our original comments

The beliefs of this cult are directly engendered by New Testament eschatology, translated into a modern context. UFOs and aliens replace the opening of the heavens and the arrival of the Son of Man leading God's armies (Mark: 13:14-37).

If you want to immunize yourself permanently against this and other types of religious lunacy, check out the scientific pantheism site right after this page: an empirical religion of joyful energy based on love of nature, science, reason and evidence, free of gurus and guilt complexes. There is no heaven, only this earth.
